Mr Right

Some of us lost it to Bill. Others gave it up for Jimmy or Ronnie. But even if history has passed him by, you never forget your first.

Girls, we’re talking presidential candidates!

So listen up, all you virgin voters: TODAY IS THE DAY, and if you miss out, you will have no one to blame but yourself if your guy doesn’t come out on top. Not to mention the fact that you will have to wait another four (!!!) years to get a piece of the action. Oh my, so get out there — even if it means skipping the gym, forgoing a blowout, or bypassing the snooze button.

You have saved yourself long enough. Just get on with it.

Walking down memory lane today. I hope you like this video from Tony Gatliff's movie "Vengo" starring Antonio Canales. I love this piece of flamenco "Arrinconamela" performed by Gritos de Guerra.

Oldboy

' 'Even though I'm no more than a beast, don't I, too, have the right to live?"

"Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone"

Summary: a man (Oh Dae-su) is kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years without any explanation. He is then released, equipped with clothes, money and a cellphone. He tries to find an explanation for his imprisonment and finds out that his kidnapper has still plans for him.

I don't like reviews, because I believe movies are pure entertainment and either you like the movie or you don't. We should not analyze movies too much as they are for entertainment purposes. However, in this case I feel the need to express my thoughts after seeing this movie on DVD. If you are not interested, then stop reading NOW.

Based on Japanese manga 'Oldboy' by Nobuaki and Garon, this Korean movie about revenge I find beautiful, shocking, intelligent and visually stunning. The director Chan-wook Park once said ' My films are the stories of people who place the blame for their actions on others because they refuse to take on the blame themselves'. At one point one of the main characters realises that he cannot blame anyone else for his own suffering, while Oh Dae-su remains afraid to accept the consequences for his actions. And there is this one scene though that I cannot place. I have watched the movie twice and still don't understand why they wanted to pull his teeth. Can someone explain this to me? The story line was hard to follow especially because of the many flash backs and there was a huge amount of aggression. But overall it was amazing to watch this movie. Oldboy, virtuosic and perhaps a bit .. strange?

Persepolis

" I cheated in the final of my metaphysics examination: I looked into the soul of the boy sitting next to me."  Woody Allen

I truly believe that books are good for the soul. And it certainly is the case with 'Persepolis', the graphic novel of Marjane Satrapi. She tells a really powerful story of what it was like from a child's perspective to grow up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution and the war with Iraq. At times it is very funny, but also very sad what makes it even more heartwarming and touches one's soul. I just finished the comic book and now I would like to see it on the big screen. It must be refreshing to see a 2D animated movie in the midst of all the CGI animated and special effects movies.

I HEART DEVENDRA BANHART

Ay tu primo colorado
Con barba camburada
Y llena de ballena
Inclinadose al sol
Ay tu rayo de luz roja
Besando nuestra boca
El beso que te sopla
Huele al col

Tus tres ojos lunares
Extraterrestriales
Entran cuando sales
Por eso no se ven
Ay tu barba colorada
Traviesa y rebelde
Me afeito con espada
Pero devuelve

La la la la la la...

Si la noche te persigue
Entrégate a ella
O dile que tienes dolor de cabeza
Sombrita de reflejo
Dame algo tierno
Me como tu amor
Y cago el infierno

Adio, adio, adio
Primo granje
Hola Bernardo...

La la la la la la la...

Ay tus ojos colorados
Azul y anaranjados
Amarillo verde y marrón
Mi amor envuelto en tu corazón
No lo sueltes por favor
Somos elefante y serpiente semejante
Tomando aguardiente
En el sol
De una flor...

La la la la la la la...
Love is not love.
Which alters when it alteration finds.
Or bends with the remover to remove.

Juno

I was afraid that this movie about a teenage pregnancy would turn out to be a sweet sentimental Hollywood movie. Instead I heard witty, sharp and sometimes hilarious dialogues and saw strong performances from Ellen Page and Michael Cera. I loved this movie. Above all, I find the writer's name so cool (ie Diablo Cody), with such a name everything you write is sharp and catching right from the start . And no, I won't reveal her real name, you can google that yourself.

Human Pacman and Human Tetris

Just something I wanted to share with you. Hilarious and soooo funny. To bad I don't speak Japanese. I wan't to be a contestant!

Scarring - Tattoo

For the past two years I have been thinking of getting a scar. I know, it sounds absurd as if I would hurt myself on purpose to damage my skin to get a scar. But that is exactly what I am talking about. When I was little, I fell and got hurt to barbwire. Ever since I loved the scar I had from this accident and regretted when it healed after a couple of years. It took six to eight years before the skin was healed completely and by that time I was so used to my scar that I started to miss it when it ' faded' away. I am still indecisive on to get a new scar and more precisely what kind of scar, where to put it and which tattoo artist could help me out?

I found this picture on Core77. Related link: sundancetattoo on myspace

Anybody got Kleenex?

Oh yeah, am down with the flu for almost a week. Just got back from Rome and the only souvenir (apart from heartfelt warm memories of course) I brought with me is a virus, INFLUENZA!!!!! Rome, city of Julius Caesar; marvelous people, beautiful city and tasty food of course! And now also the only city that got me the flu. Grazie Mille! Grazie mille also to Antonio, Gustavo and Valentina for showing me Rome. I have not sorted out the pictures yet as my I cannot focus on any task taking me longer than 1 minute. Then how am I writing this post? Well, I can type very fast and I am a bit bored. Guess, this is a sign I am getting better. I'd better be as I just bought a new MacBook Pro last week so I need some quality time with my new gadget. I am eager to check out the new features and programs that comes with my new Mac. Holler!

P.S. I also bought an iTouch and it's so cool! Luvvin' it!

How many five year olds could you take in a fight?

Well, it appears I cannot take more than 10 five year olds in a fight. Dunno what to think of it. Am I a wuzz or .. well ...I guess I am just not so strong as I thought I would be. Aargh!

10

Abdel, we have to work on those low kicks! You know, those five year olds are not so tall yet. Forget Miriam Nakamoto, I have to focus on kids!!!

LinLinDesign

A new Dutch webshop has come to my attention. It's called LinLinDesign and it has the prettiest handbags for your daily wear. But you can also find a chic velvet evening bag or other cute ones for a special occasion. The first collection is inspired by the designer's many trips to the spice islands a.k.a. The Moluccan Islands in Indonesia. The website shows an interesting introduction on how she got inspired to start her webshop. Check out the webshop of LinLinDesign after the jump.

Pixar Short Animated Movie ' Lifted'

Short animated movie about a student alien. Funny and entertaining. For those who have seen "Ratatouille", the man in the pyama is none other than Linguini, the kitchen help in "Ratatouille". "Lifted" was nominated for an Oscar in 2007, but lost from "The Danish Poet".

Ghost World

Ghost World is one of my favourite movies and here are two of my favourite scenes from the movie.

The first clip was taken from a Bollywood movie called Gumnaam. I love the eye masks! Every time I watch the clip it makes me wanna shake my hips and dance like crazy!

The second clip is a scene with "Doug"; Brad Renfro is also in this scene. It's so funny! Just priceless!

Sugarhills We Love You Guys!

Enjoyed a great show from Sugar Hill Gang last Friday. They can still groove. No swearing, just skills. Here's to old school hiphop!

A Happy 2008!

Seen on MoCo Loco: a designer's wish list for 2008

"I'd be into seeing an affordable (like $50) computer screen that is an entire wall in one's home - where you could work on designs, check emails, chat, watch movies, all in hi-def. A super-consolidated audio/video system that is super stream-lined and minimal.

I envision a 21st Century body-cleaning system. Showers and baths are so outdated. I would love to have a cleaning system where you can walk right into it naked, and it automatically loofahs your back, shampoos and conditions your hair, the works. Sort of like a carwash for people."

I'm lovin' it!
